Benoit Mandelbrot, padre della geometria frattale, tiene a battesimo una gara annuale: il Mandelbrot Fractal Art Contest.

Le sue scoperte nel campo di questa straordinaria branca della matematica sovvertono i canoni classici, "i primi passi non sono lenti, noiosi e senza risultati, ma divertenti e strardinariamente facili".

Questo è uno dei pochissimi campi in cui si cimentano quasi ad armi pari, ma con due approcci antitetici, sia matematici che artisti.
