Una delle notizie che cominciarono a chiarire che la Trilogia dell'Anello non avrebbe deluso i fan di Tolkien di tutto il mondo fu quando si seppe che per gli artwork erano stati chiamati due degli artisti più noti come illustratori della Terra di Mezzo: Alan Lee e John Howe.

John è un illustratore cresciuto a pane e Franzetta, grande ammiratore del Conan di Barry Windsor-Smith.

Il suo sito ospita un bellissimo portfolio che rivela alcuni schizzi e artwork realizzati per la trilogia.
