Ito Shinsui era uno stampatore giapponese che diede vita al movimento Shin Hanga all'inizio del secolo scorso. Questo nuovo stile risentiva delle influenze del celebrato Ukiyo-e e degli impressionisti occidentali.

A differenza degli altri esponenti più dediti a paesaggi, Ito Shinsui amava ritrarre giovani donne in momenti di naturale intimità.

Fu anche insignito del massimo titolo onirifico di "tesoro vivente".
